May 27 - 29, 2017 Bucharest, Romania to Ruse, Bulgaria

Saturday we had our luggage packed and picked up from our room at 7am.   Breakfast at the hotel (included) and then we boarded a bus and drove about an hour and a half from Bucharest to the town of Constanta. Here we toured churches and archeological sights, including an incredible Roman mosaic floor uncovered in the last few years.   We walked through the town to the shore of the Black Sea and the sight of a casino that has sat empty and deteriorating   for many years, being passed from one bureaucratic organization to another for the purpose of renovation, each of these agencies ultimately failing to make any progress and often becoming mired in controversial and/or illegal dealings before the "project" is passed on to another agency.   Ancient Caduceus                                 ...

June 10 - 13: Nürnberg, Bamberg, and Würzburg, Germany

On Saturday, June 10, we awoke at 6am to the loud squawking/squeaking sound of the boat being lowered in a lock.   Until now we have been entering locks to raise our level, from now on we will be going down.   We were on deck for our lowering of over 81 feet in one lock! Everything on the upper deck had been folded down, and even the wheelhouse was lowered to make sure we would get under the gate.     Later in the morning we crossed through an aqueduct where the water (and our boat) were actually traveling over a highway. Taken over the side of our boat...we are crossing over the highway! Amazing things to see!   We have now left the Danube and we are traveling on the Main (pronounced "mine")-Danube Canal.
